Dr. Jennifer Berg Psy.D.
Individual, Couples & Family Counseling

What exactly do you do?

Simply put, I will talk with you about the things that are worrying you. From there we will develop strategies tailored to fit your needs to help you overcome any difficulties. Assessment, diagnosis, treatment, evaluation and consultation are all components of what we will work on together in therapy.

What kind of treatment will I receive?

Depending on the nature of your issues or stressors being treated, psychotherapy or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) may be recommended. Usually, simply talking individually to a therapist helps provide the patient with clarity and solutions that they may not have previously had or understood. Simply put, our goal is to gain insight and directly address any current challenges that you may be facing.

I will work with you to determine the best method to fit your specific needs.

Does therapy for mental and emotional problems always work?

Sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. It primarily depends on you and the therapist. It is important to share your concerns in a serious, sincere, and open manner. Only if you are completely honest and open can you expect to receive the best support and guidance.

What if I give therapy a try and I still don't feel comfortable?

There should be a good fit between you and the therapist you choose. Sometimes, someone else may be more suitable for your personality. Don't give up on therapy, let me know if you think we are not a good fit and I can make a recommendation for another therapist in the area that may be a better fit for you.

Does what I discuss in therapy remain confidential?

Confidentiality is basic to therapy, and the patient has the right to control access to information about their treatment. Professional association guidelines plus federal and state laws underscore the importance of confidentiality in therapist-client relationships and govern the release of records.

For the safety of yourself and others, there are some emergency situations where confidentiality can be breached. If this concerns you, please contact me for more detailed information.

Is therapy covered by my health insurance?

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out what Mental Health benefits are covered and if I am a provider in your network.

If you're visit isn't covered by insurance, I offer a reasonable private pay rate and I can always provide super-bills that can be submitted to insurance companies so you can seek reimbursement.

Please check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions of your insurance provider:

Do I have mental health insurance benefits?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?
What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
Is approval required from my primary care physician?

I highly recommend that you contact your insurance provider before your appointment and ask about your mental health benefits. They can provide you with information about your co-pay or co-insurance.

In some cases, paying out-of-pocket or "private pay" may be less expensive than your insurance rates.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 45 minutes long. I have clients that see me weekly, bi-monthly and monthly. This is according to client preference and need.

Where is your office?

I am located off of Moana Lane at 305 W. Moana Lane Suite B2 Reno, NV 89509

I am directly across the street from the Moana Recreational Complex.

There is ample parking in the rear of the building.

Why do you require a credit card to make an appointment?

I value my time and yours, which is why I have a strict cancellation policy. When you schedule an appointment, that time is set aside and reserved for you, If you do not cancel or choose to "no show," this time cannot be utilized by others who are on my waitlist. In order to serve as many patients as I can, I require 24 hour notice for any and all cancellations. This gives me some time to fill that slot so others who are waiting to be seen have an opportunity. If I don't hear from you within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment, or if you "no-show" I will charge the card on file.

Insurance and Billing Questions.

If you are using your insurance benefits, Dr. Jennifer Berg, Psy.D, requires the patient portion of the first session be paid by credit card. This is due to the high incidence of unreported deductibles and the fact that insurance may not cover certain services such as Couples Counseling, Family Counseling, and sessions lasting longer than 45 minutes.

Insurance is billed as a courtesy to you. If insurance does not pay the contracted rate for services, any remaining balance due that is the legal patient responsibility will be charged to the credit card on file. This amount typically includes co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles that have not yet been met or were quoted incorrectly by the insurance company.

Wait List

When my availability is limited enough that I cannot schedule an initial appointment within the next 30 days, I can place you on a wait list. This allows you to hold your "place in line" while seeking services from another provider in the event that you are in need of services sooner than is possible given my current availability.
